October Sunday School

In preparation for All Saints Day (November 1) we are learning about a few selected Heroes and Sheroes of Faith. On October 4 we all learned a bit about St. Francis at the Blessing of the Animals. On the 11th I told the story of Columba of Iona, the Dove of the Church, while Mrs. Kimberly shared about St. Luke the Apostle and Evangelist. On Sunday the 18th I plan to tell the story of Thomas Cranmer, the chief architect of The Book of Common Prayer. Mrs. Kimberly is looking forward to teaching about St. Philip the Apostle. Then, on October 25 I will tell the story of one of the Sheroes of Emmanuel Parish, Mother Fisher. Who will Mrs. Kimberly teach us about? It's a surprise! We hope you'll plan for your kids to be with us for Sunday School in the Undercroft from 9:30 - 10:10 each Sunday morning.

Family Ministry Sunday

On October 18, everyone come to the Undercroft for quick stories about our saints of the day - Thomas Cranmer and Philip the Apostle - then we will start to prepare for our roles in Family Ministry Sunday.

Mary, Desmond, and Bea will report to Mark Thieman for Usher duty.

The Lewis family will report to the Sacristy to help set up the Altar for the service.

DJ, Houston, Kimberly, and Holly will see me for acolyte training.

Amy, Walter, and Cora will be our Readers.

Eric, Henry, and Lettie will carry the Oblations of Bread and Wine.

Eina, Dylan, Shane, and George will give the church announcements for the day.

November 1 - All Saints Day

Our youth will be helping welcome the congregation by passing out bulletins before church. As part of our recent lessons about the Saints, each youth will wear a name badge featuring a saint's name and will be ready to share a few facts about that saint with those entering the church. The sermon that day will be a "Parade of Saints."

Spring Lakes Ranch 2027 Family Retreat

I reached out to Spring Lakes Ranch about having our family retreat there again next summer. They are holding the same July weekend for us, which would be July 16-18, 2027. Please let me know by email or text if that would be a good block of time for your family to participate. The cost of the retreat can be largely, possibly completely, underwritten by the Kreps Memorial Trust. I'll be waiting to hear from everyone if I should book the ranch!

Nursery Staff Openings

We would like to hire 2 more nursery staff. If you know of any likely candidates, please get them in contact with Samantha or with me.

Children's Charter for the Church

The Episcopal Church adopted this back in 1997. Mary Jane Steadman reminded me of it, and I think it will be really helpful for us to use as we shape our ministry with children and youth. I hope you'll read it and agree!
