What happened

  • Mr. Jeffery Morton, Chief Trust Officer, told the Rector that Mrs. Janice Keefer has died. She was the last of nine individual beneficiaries of the William E. and Edna D. Kreps Memorial Trust.
  • Mrs. Keefer was a niece of Mr. Kreps and lived 98 1/2 years in Maryland. Her funeral was held the day before the announcement.

What it means for Emmanuel

  • After some legalities are sorted out, Trust income will be divided: Salvation Army of Dallas (40%) and Emmanuel Episcopal Church (60%).
  • Mr. Kreps' Will designates Emmanuel's portion for the benefit of our youth development program.
  • A season of discernment about stewardship of the Trust was already underway; this news adds seriousness to it.
  • Rector will work with parish staff, the Kreps Trust Committee, the Vestry, and the congregation, and welcomes members' thoughts.

Pastoral tone

  • Prayer requested for the repose of Mrs. Keefer's soul and for comfort for her grieving family.
  • Gratitude for the gift and hope for a positive influence on young people's spiritual and temporal needs.
